How To Create An Outdoor Recreation Area

Recreation & Sports Blog

Your home should be somewhere pleasant where you enjoy spending time. Not everyone has a spare room in their house to turn into a rec room. However, most people have backyards that are underutilized. Crafting your house and backyard into an oasis of relaxation and fun can help you save money in the long run by giving you an alternative to expensive nights out. Turning your backyard into an outdoor recreation area can be a great gift for your entire family. Here are three steps you can take to make this plan a reality.

1. Invest in an awning

While it's nice to enjoy the sunshine, sometimes it can become a bit overwhelming. If you want your family and friends to happily spend more time in the backyard, you will have to make it as comfortable as possible. Providing shade is one important way you can do this. If your backyard doesn't already feature a covered area, don't worry; you won't have to undertake any major renovations. You can invest in a retractable awning that can be pulled down to provide shade when it's desired.

2. Purchase patio furniture

Patio furniture is a must-have if you expect to do a significant amount of lounging in the backyard. Reclining lawn chairs will allow you to sit or lie down at your leisure. You can add a hammock for additional comfort. You may want to include a set of tables and chairs if you plan to entertain with food and drinks. You don't need to buy everything all at once, but investing in a few comfortable pieces of lawn furniture will go a long way toward making your outdoor recreation area more inviting.

3. Buy a billiard table

No recreational space is complete without some fun games. Billiards is a classic game that people of all ages can enjoy. However, placing a billiard table outside raises some additional considerations. Traditional billiard tables are crafted from wood, which is not a particularly water-resistant material. Look for an outdoor billiard table that's designed to stand up to the elements. Many outdoor billiard tables are made of plastic, which is easy to clean and durable. You can also find outdoor billiard tables made of aluminum for a modern look that's still very lightweight.

Remember to purchase a cover for your billiard table as well. While the legs and body of outdoor billiard tables are made of water-resistant material, the top portion is still made of felt, which can absorb water if left out in the rain. A plastic cover can keep your outdoor pool table safe, no matter what the weather is like.

Zip It Up: Zip Line Jumping 101

The very first time I put on the harness for a zip line excursion, it was a life-changing moment. As I took the leap of faith and watched the world pass beneath me, I was awestruck. I knew right away that it wouldn't be the last time. I have spent my free time since then studying different zip line methods and locations to see what other experiences I might be able to enjoy. I created this site to show other zip line enthusiasts, and those curious but not yet experienced, to learn what I have about the options out there. I hope that the information here encourages you to get out there and give it a shot.
