RV Storage: Preparing Your Ride For Hibernation

Recreation & Sports Blog

If you're planning on storing your RV for an extended period, taking some proactive steps can reduce the wear and tear on your vehicle.

From choosing the right RV storage provider to spending a few hours preparing your RV for hibernation, here are some things to consider before parking your vehicle this season.

Airing it Up, Topping it Off, and Blowing Out

When your RV sits for extended periods of time, temperature fluctuations, wind, UV exposure, and precipitation can age your vehicle. Taking the time to complete these steps can minimize the impact of sitting idly for a season.

  • Airing Up: as temperatures fluctuate, the air in your RV's tires will expand and contract. This is particularly important if parking your vehicle in an outside RV storage facility. If your RV's tires deflate too much, your tires can be damaged and your suspension system will have less support. Before you park your RV, you should inflate your tires to the maximum rating. If you aren't sure about the maximum number, consult the manufacturer's website or contact their customer service hotline.
  • Topping off: the liquids in your RV's engine will also expand and contract as temperatures fluctuate. Topping off your engine coolant, transmission fluid, and windshield wiper storage wells can protect your engine from flexing and shrinking. It's important to use fluids that won't freeze when the temperatures plummet.
  • Blowing Out: to prevent expanding water from busing the RV's water lines, you should blow them out with an air compressor. To get this job done, you'll need to open the valves on your taps, shower, and other supply valves. Next, connect your air compressor hose to a main water line junction. After securing the hose, blow out the moisture in your water lines until the air is completely clean and dry.

Choosing Your Spot and Covering Up

Not all RV storage is created equally. In some cases, the most expensive option might not be necessary. This is particularly true if you're willing to invest in an RV cover.

  • Storage Provider: the most expensive RV storage is covered and temperature controlled. If you choose this option, your RV will have minimal exposure to the elements. Some providers will also run your engine every few weeks to make your battery last longer.
  • Covering Up: unless you're parking your vehicle in an environment with extreme weather, you can save money by investing in an RV cover. When choosing a cover, look for something with reinforced seams and a reflective coating.

Zip It Up: Zip Line Jumping 101

The very first time I put on the harness for a zip line excursion, it was a life-changing moment. As I took the leap of faith and watched the world pass beneath me, I was awestruck. I knew right away that it wouldn't be the last time. I have spent my free time since then studying different zip line methods and locations to see what other experiences I might be able to enjoy. I created this site to show other zip line enthusiasts, and those curious but not yet experienced, to learn what I have about the options out there. I hope that the information here encourages you to get out there and give it a shot.
