3 Benefits of Having a Bike Fitting Before Buying Your Next Bike

Recreation & Sports Blog

When you buy a new bike, your shop will likely offer a bike fitting before and after your purchase. While you might not think you need a fitting, you should take advantage of the offer. Why?

1. Buy The Right Size Bike

Bike shops often do a basic size analysis when you start looking at bikes. They check you over to work out the right size of bike to suit your height and physical features.

This is an important check to make before you make a purchase. If a bike is too small or too big, then you'll never be able to ride it comfortably.

For example, you might hunch over too much on a bike with a frame that is too small. If it is too big, then you'll struggle to reach the pedals comfortably. A bike fitting simply ensures that you start off with the right size frame.

2. Get A More Comfortable Ride

Once you choose a bike, your shop might also offer a post-purchase fitting service. They might adjust the saddle, the stem height and length, the brakes, and the shoe holders.

This part of the fitting process ensures that the bike is adjusted to exactly fit you and your cycling needs. It helps you avoid cycling discomfort and injuries.

For example, if your saddle and stem aren't at the right heights or in the right positions, then you might feel sore and numb after a long bike ride. You might strain your back and legs because your bike isn't giving you the right amount of support.

However, if you have a fitting at this point, then you get a more comfortable ride. You're less likely to feel sore or numb, and you reduce the risk of injuring yourself.

3. Improve Your Cycling Performance

If you take your cycling seriously, then you want to buy a bike that will give you optimum performance on the road or on the track. However, the best bike in the world won't do this if it doesn't fit you just right.

For example, if your fit is off, then you'll get more fatigued as you ride. Your muscles might not be able to cope with longer rides or shorter sprint bursts. You won't achieve your full potential.

If you have a bike fitting, then you improve your efficiency in the saddle. You'll waste less energy compensating for areas that aren't comfortable or a good fit with your body. Your performance will improve.

Zip It Up: Zip Line Jumping 101

The very first time I put on the harness for a zip line excursion, it was a life-changing moment. As I took the leap of faith and watched the world pass beneath me, I was awestruck. I knew right away that it wouldn't be the last time. I have spent my free time since then studying different zip line methods and locations to see what other experiences I might be able to enjoy. I created this site to show other zip line enthusiasts, and those curious but not yet experienced, to learn what I have about the options out there. I hope that the information here encourages you to get out there and give it a shot.
